GreenBuilding Solutions ltd Environmental Policies
We aim to minimise our use of plastics in all their forms, and especially PVC.
Wherever possible we aim to use local timbers. The Uk is our preference, but in practice a substantial part of our supply comes from Europe.
We always use FSC or PEFC timber where possible and reclaimed timber when we have it available. We avoid the use of uncertified tropical and subtropical timbers.
On site we aim to minimise disruption to plants, the soil and wildlife, where necessary, carrying out an environmental survey before work commences.
Wherever practical, reusable materials are kept separately for re-use or recycling and materials are used carefully in order to avoid unnecessary wastage.
We aim to keep sites tidy and presentable.
We aim to minimise the use of toxic chemicals, in timber preservatives, paints, finishes and other compounds. We will always recommend the use of plant-based oils and paints, and of boron based timber preservatives (used where necessary), and use naturally durable species in preference to treated timber.
We aim to minimise the transport impact of our work by prioritising local materials and suppliers, by sharing transport where possible and exploring alternatives to petrol or diesel transport.
We prioritise the use of natural insulation materials and breathing constructions, and avoid the use of blown plastics which are not labelled as zero ozone depleting.
We encourge clients to maximise the insulation value of their buildings, take steps to reduce water and electricity consumption (eg. by installing low flush toilets or low energy appliances) and to repair traditional materials such as earth and lime rather than replace with cement or other high impact modern materials.
